About Marilynn Larkin
Marilynn Larkin, an American
Council on Exercise (ACE)-certified
personal trainer and ACE-certified group fitness instructor, has been involved in dance, group fitness, and strength training in various
capacities for more than 20 years. She is also the official Fitness Writer for
Weill Medical College of Cornell University's Food & Fitness Advisor newsletter.
Her movement background encompasses
a wide range of areas, from stretch and strength training to yoga and movement for actors. She started a personal training business
at Equinox Columbus Circle, and continues to train clients at trainers' gyms in New York
City.
Marilynn has extensive expertise in how the body ages, and has worked as a functional fitness instructor with older adults.
Marilynn also has experience in natural bodybuilding, and placed second in the Natural New York City bodybuilding competition in
2003.
In 2004, Marilynn developed an innovative
fitness and motivational program called POSTURE-CIZE,
which emphasizes optimal body form and function. She
also introduced the POSTURE-CIZE fitness
class and Posture Power workshops.
POSTURE-CIZE exercises reflect Marilynn's
focused posture work with her personal training clients,
as well as her research on the muscles related to attaining
good posture. The class is unique because it focuses
on strengthening and stretching specifically those muscles
that improve posture. As few as 4 half-hour sessions
can help to transform the body's appearance.
Marilynn
has led POSTURE-CIZE workshops in corporations,
professional societies, non–profits such as Fit
for Success (a pilot program of Dress for Success International),
and in support groups for conditions such as Parkinson's
and Alzheimer's disease.
Marilynn is knowledgeable about many areas
of health and medicine. She is an award-winning medical
editor and journalist whose work has appeared in leading
medical journals such as The Lancet,
eBriefings for the New
York Academy of Sciences; Consumer Reports magazine and Health Letter; and
university-affilliated publications. Her
work has also been published in a wide range of general
interest magazines, including Health magazine, Vogue,
Modern Bride, Woman's World, Woman's Day, and Vegetarian
Times. She is the author of five health books for the
general public.
Marilynn has
appeared on TV talk shows, including Oprah, and is an avid speaker and lecturer on health and fitness topics. She developed the Marilynn Larkin's POSTURE-CIZE DVD to help inspire everyone to become more physically fit, attain good
posture, and build confidence, energy, and strength. |
